He was studying Byzantine Empresses...

This is from Alexander McQueen's final show. He was 80% done this collection when he died, and it was shown beautifully and respectfully at Paris Fashion Week on March 9th. Style.com tells of his efforts to go back to historically-informed techniques to create fine couture creations. He was studying "medieval Madonnas and Byzantine Empresses". These are a few of his pieces from Fall, Ready-To-Wear, 2010.

I teared-up immediately when I saw this one (above)--it is breathlessly beautiful.
